Overview of Idea

One Degree strengthens communities by connecting low-income families to resources to help them survive and thrive. We're developing a web app that's like a Yelp for nonprofits, which will enable millions of people will be able to access, rate, review and get information about their local resources.

The Specifics: How will you use $2,500 to fuel social change through technology?

We want to shift the power back to people in low-income communities by revolutionizing access to social services and democratizing the nonprofit industry. Our long-term goal is to build the most trusted website for user reviews of social services. The site allows open transparency and accountability on how social services are delivered.

Part of the $2,500 will be used for front-end web development so that the website is easy to use for low-income populations via desktop and mobile browsers. Another portion of it will be used to incent people to create content for the site. Our web app will empower communities with an up-to-date and relevant database of resources that anyone can use. We hope to make families the drivers of social change.
