Overview of Idea

:

The project will unite US students with students from foreign countries through the sharing of culturally significant and new music. We will bring new musical styles to life through the merging of various approaches, lifestyles, etc. Our plan is to use the Communilator language translation app.

The Specifics: How will you use $2,500 to fuel social change through technology?

Using a language translation application along with mobile devices and musical composition apps, students will create new music and share stories of traditional music within cultures, helping students blend styles and traditions to form innovative and unique musical genres. While planning the project, we discovered access to and knowledge of using mobile technology in music classrooms was absent in our community. We are embracing the benefits of using devices such as iPads in a collaborative, creative learning environment. We would use the $2500 to purchase two iPads as well as reviewed and selected music composition and performance apps. We will construct content and activities for the project and purchase the language translation app.

Hello everyone....we're working hard to let everyone know about our project. Thanks to everyone who has voted and brought us one step closer. I thought I would introduce the team. First, my name is Mark Burke. A few years ago, I founded MusicWithinMe (MusicWithinMe.com), an online musica academy. Through my work at MWM, I partnered with the BLaST IU 17 in Williamsport, PA. BLaST helps regional schools accomplish great things, things they could not do alone, through innovation and support services. When a fellow innovator launched her Communilator APP (language translation), I started thinking about the potential for us to all work together. We could get kids talking to kids who speak different languages. They could share in music and thus, in life. Through their experiences, we could help kids create a new genre of music, one that blends musical styles from around the world into a new World Music. That's our vision. We appreaciate your support and hope to put the $2500.00 to use in our project. Thanks everyone!

Our goal is to get kids thinking outside the box, through hearing and learning about musical styles unfamiliar to them. Language has always been a barrier when attempting to connect students from diverse cultures, but no more. The All Music is World Music project will use Communilator, a fantastic language translation app. Help is create a group of students ready to blend world music styles into new genres. Thanks everyone.

It's all about Connections - no matter the issue/project/idea/challenge - it all comes down to Connections. When people connect, things happen! In this case, when students connect through music the geographic distance shrinks and common ground is established. What "speaks" to one student (or one group of students) will establish a basis for connecting with others despite their experiences, culture or circumstance. The value inherent in that Connection lies in what it prompts all involved to do - potential no one dare imagine. If you believe in the power of the human spirit and that one person CAN make a difference, join us, please!

Thanks for visiting our project. We're eager to see kids in our rural communities connect with kids from around the world. We're really fortunate to have the talent folks who developed the Communilator translation app in our neighborhood. When we first met, it was clear just how powerful this project could be. Now, we're asking for your vote of confidence. Help us create the activities and ultimately the opportunities for kids to create some amazing music, learn about other cultures and build new perspectives. Thanks....Mark Burke, Founder of Music Within Me.
