Overview of Idea

:

A secure site for users to upload information about who they're with, what they're doing, and that they made it home safely. This information stays confidential, unless there is a missing persons report filed for a user, in which case the data is provided to assist law enforcement on their behalf.

The Specifics: How will you use $2,500 to fuel social change through technology?

We created SnugNote to improve people's safety while out enjoying life. Whether home alone during a visit from a repairman, or meeting a blind date, there are many situations where it'd be smart to let someone know who you're with, what you're doing, and that you made it home safely. SnugNote aims to be that someone.

While we've built the core service out, and created both an iPhone and Android app for it, our team consists of developers and not designers. To give it the extra polish needed for people to actually use it, we need to hire a talented designer, and don't currently have the funds for this expense. The GOOD grant could really make a difference in helping us get things off the ground.

As a single woman, I feel so much safer now that I have SnugNote and can record information about where I am going or what I am doing without having to share those details with my parents or friends. When a repairman or handyman comes to my apartment, I let SnugNote know beforehand. When I go on a trip, SnugNote notes my new location. I have piece of mind knowing that if something were to happen, safety officials would have information to rescue me. It is also convenient that I do not constantly have to check in with my friends and family to let them know I am safe, since they receive my Snug Report. SnugNote is an important public safety tool that should be shared with all your loved ones, especially people in college and single people. Thank you, SnugNote!

I will use this service when my daughter goes to college. I know she won't call every night, but she will take a moment (and that's all it takes) to let snugnote know who she's with and when she returns home. It is a real piece of mind for any parent, especially one who worries about their child as much as I do!!

SnugNote has been a tremendous peace of mind being that my son is away at college for his first year. Opening that email each morning and seeing that he was snug as a bug is such a calming feeling. On top of that, being a single woman it is nice to know I can report my whereabouts and who I am with, knowing the information can be retrieved in an emergency situation.

This is a great idea and really deserves a lot of support. Aside from individual use cases, SnugNote could provide huge savings to law enforcement and fire rescue. Time and money that would otherwise be spent on lengthy and frustrating investigations.

I LOVE this service! I've been part of the initial testing, and can't wait for it to be available to the public, so EVERYONE can be using it! (And they will! It's that smart, easy, and makes me feel SO much safer in so many situations. Now that I've been using it, I can't IMAGINE not having/using it!) I look forward to seeing the new design and improvements they want to make.

This service is a great idea especially for someone like me whose family likes to know where I am. It is much quicker and easier to remember than calling family members every night, especially if it gets too late. I can't wait for more features to be available!

Hi Zoe,

Thanks for the positive feedback! Just to clarify, your parents would never know where you were - we only give location, timestamps, and other information to law enforcement. With the "Snug Report" service (which is how we hope to be able to support the "leave a note for law enforcement if needed" service), they would only get an email that you were safe for the night at some point before a 5am cutoff.

Hopefully with the help of GOOD, more features and a better user experience will be arriving soon!

Thanks again for your vote and support!

Best,
Josh
