Overview of Idea

The US's most successful farmland protection effort is just 30 minutes outside Washington, DC- Montgomery County's Ag Reserve. These farms need to stay viable to beat back strong development pressures- enter an Ag Reserve App to connect local residents to the farms and food in their backyard!

The Specifics: How will you use $2,500 to fuel social change through technology?

Montgomery Countryside Alliance has already gathered all the information needed for an interactive online farm guide to the farms, historic sites and county parks that exist in the Reserve but we want to take that resource mobile so that visitors to the Reserve can plan their itinerary on the fly and navigate the rural back roads , learn about upcoming events, and stay up to date with what food is available as the seasons change.

The funds from this challenge will be matched by funds from our own budget and our donors to secure DC’s Project Design Company to work on the app.

Better connectivity will bring more business to farms and build a wider coalition of people willing to protect this area from development.
